Fresh basil and garlic are a heavenly combination. Mix this with a little olive oil and you have pesto! This is one of my favorite Italian tastes. Serve pesto with pasta or spread it on toasted bruschetta or use it as a sauce for pizza.
Ingredients
¾ dl. (1/3 c.) walnuts or pine nuts
2 ½ dl. (1 c.) fresh basil or frozen basil
¾ dl. (1/3 c.) olive oil
1-2 cloves of garlic
1 Tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. sesame topping
Instructions
Mix all ingredients in a food processor or a blender to a smooth paste.
Sesame Topping Ingredients
2 ½ dl. (1 c.) hulled sesame seeds, toasted
½ dl. (¼ c.) yeast flakes
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. onion powder
½ tsp. garlic powder
Instructions
Blend the hulled sesame seeds in a blender or mix in a food processor along with the remaining ingredients. Store in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or jar. Good to sprinkle on pasta, lettuce, tomato sandwich, popcorn, and more.
