– a naturally delicious snack
Apples
Cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla sugar or lemon if desired
Preheat the oven to 75° C (170° F). Wash, dry and core the apples. Cut the apples into thin slices, preferably using a mandolin. Make sure the slices are the same thickness so that they dry at the same time. Spread the apple rings on a baking sheet with baking paper and dry in the middle of the oven for about 4-5 hours. Leave the oven door slightly ajar (with a wooden spoon in between) or open it occasionally to let the moisture out. The time will vary depending on the thickness of the apple rings, the oven and how you like your dried apple rings. Store the dried apple rings in a dry, cool and dark place, preferably in an airtight jar.
Tips
You can soak the apple slices in lemon water or brush them with lemon to prevent them from darkening.
Before drying the apples, sprinkle some cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla sugar or any other spice you like to flavor the apples.
You can also air dry the apples or use a dehydrator.
Eat the apple rings as they are, sprinkle them over porridge or yoghurt, use them in baking, make fruit soup with them or soak them in water overnight for a tasty drink.
