This time of year is not typically when we want to think about our waistlines – we would rather just enjoy the delicious treats that abound. But with one simple tip, you could benefit your waistline without much thought at all. A recent study found that eating more fruit and non-starchy vegetables help maintain ideal weight or even help in weight loss when needed. A large population, 133468 men and women, were followed for up to 24 years and it was seen that eating more fruits and non-starchy vegetables is linked to modest weight loss. These benefits were strongest for berries, apples and pears, citrus fruits, tofu and soy, cauliflower and other calciferous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts, and leafy vegetables. Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, corn, and peas did not convey these same benefits. So for the holidays and all year long, make sure to focus on healthy fruits and vegetables, then there won’t be much room or interest for unhealthy treats. Your waistline will thank you!
