Know anyone with who is afraid of getting diabetes from fruit?
Contrary to popular belief, eating whole fruits has been linked to a reduced risk of getting type 2 diabetes. But what if you already have diabetes? Do you have to give up the fruit? You might think that the sweetness of the fruit would make your blood sugar shoot up, but it actually doesn’t. Most fresh fruit has a low glycemic index, meaning it’s easy on your blood sugar.
But notice, we didn’t brag about fruit juice. The juice – even 100% fruit juice with no sugar added – actually increases the risk of getting diabetes. So, skip the juice and enjoy fresh peaches, strawberries, apples, pears, apricots, and berries – the way the Creator made them.
Note: Melons and pineapple are some exceptions to this – they have a higher glycemic index and should be used cautiously by people with diabetes.
