On-demand expands LifeStyleTV's reach
Interview with Heber Teixeira
Imagine being able to watch virtually all of the programs LifeStyleTV has produced in the past four and a half years? Imagine being able to watch them anytime, anywhere, with 24x7 access for free? Imagine being able to share links for programs on social networking sites, and being able to even embed videos on your own website? Heber Teixeira, head technician at LifeStyleTV, shares in this interview the latest developments of LifeStyleTV's on-demand system.
Why on-demand?
LifeStyleTV is constantly seeking to find new ways of reaching people for Christ through media. On-demand allows people to watch what they want, when they want, and even where they want. It's also another resource for people to share the gospel with their friends and family. You can watch programs on your computer and even your smartphone.
How did LifeStyleTV go on-demand?
In early 2009, someone donated equipment which only had the capacity of around 50 programs. While this was a good start, we still had a lot of research and development to work on. At the right time, a donor came forward and financed a complete system that would be able to hold over 1500 programs, in multiple qualities!
Who put the system together?
Kristoffer Sandström, a computer technician from Sweden, volunteered many weeks of researching different technologies, configuring, testing and programming the new system. Allan Jensen, a software programmer from Norway, also helped us with developing the systems interface. Together, we designed and built the on-demand system from scratch so that it would fit our needs and be as future proof as possible. Internally, we have also spent a lot of time creating graphics for each program, write interesting descriptions and keywords to make finding specific topics easier. At the end of the day, we will have an on-demand system that will deliver many hours of quality programming, at a fraction of the cost had we paid an external company to set up and maintain.
What can people watch on-demand?
There are programs with Bible studies, inspirational sermons, family seminars, health seminars, interviews, tasty cooking and relaxing music.
Can people download programs?
Programs are not in a downloadable format. You can, however, save links and even embed the video on your own website. You don’t have to watch it through LifeStyleTV's website. Some programs have pdf links beside them, like Utforska Bibeln prophecy has Bible studies or Dagens cooking has recipes, you can download.
Will the on-demand eventually replace the satellite TV?
Absolutely not. The on-demand system complements satellite TV and reaches another group of people. It's for people who already know about LifeStyleTV but want the flexibility of watching something on their schedule. Sharing programs is also easier online than with satellite TV as you can with the on-demand. Both have advantages, and both are needed.
How do you go about sharing programs?
Viewers just need to go to www.lifestyletv/ondemand and start browsing for interesting programs. On every video clip there are three different options you can click on: "link" - copy and paste into an email or into facebook; "e-mail" - put in your friend's email and send; or "code" - copy and paste to embed the video into your website.
How can churches use the on-demand on their websites?
Churches can link to our on-demand site or if they prefer, they can just embed a specific program directly on the churches website. This way the visitor to the churches website doesn’t need to leave their website, just to watch the program.
What does the future hold for the on-demand library?
Ultimately, our vision is to have a comprehensive library of lifestyle-focussed programs primarily in the Scandinavian languages. They need to be easy to search and to easy share with others. Our aim by the end of summer 2010 is to upload over 300 of LifeStyleTV's programs. From then on, most new programs that will be produced will be made available on-demand. We'll also be adding special features and clips, like meet the team and behind the scenes. We're planning to put up programs from other Christian TV producers.
Do you have any on-demand viewer stories to share?
Actually, just yesterday we received an e-mail from a student in Norway. He wrote "today I looked at the TV guide and took note of the programs I wanted to watch. In the break, I took a one hour bike ride to practice what I had seen and heard on LifeStyleTV. If I miss a program, I go to the on-demand in the evening and listen closely."
Any final thoughts?

Dear Friends,
This is not a regular news briefing, but a special personal request to you. Please read on.
“Miracles can never come to people who always know where things are coming from – those who have everything provided. Miracles come, as Elder Frazee points out, to those who are willing to get out on a limb with God: ‘The only time miracles happen is when somebody who is doing something for God is stuck unless the miracle happens. The only way to have a miracle happen is to get out on a limb with God. This must be not in presumption, but in doing something God wants done, and you know God wants it done. You must be willing to work with all you have and be willing to sacrifice and go without to make your project succeed. When there is still something beyond what you can do, God steps in and does it for you. This is the way miracles happen.’” – Robert H. Pierson (former General Conference president), in Miracles Happen Every Day, page 10.
LifeStyleTV was established by faith, and has been sustained by many miracles for the past five years. During these years we have seen it fulfill its mission of broadcasting the Three Angels’ Messages to Scandinavia. We have seen how peoples’ lives have been changed and how many have joined the church through baptism. As long as God has a purpose for LifeStyleTV to exist, we are sure that He will continue to perform miracles and supply every need, as He has done so far.
The exciting thing—yet at the same time perplexing and at times trying—is that we never know how God will perform a miracle, nor when or through whom. This does not mean that we don’t plan or do our best to find solutions, but we have learned that God has a thousand ways. Ellen G. White puts it this way: “In every difficulty He has His way prepared to bring relief. Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us, of which we know nothing. Those who accept the one principle of making the service and honor of God supreme will find perplexities vanish, and a plain path before their feet.” Desire of Ages, page 330.
This year some of our international startup supporters have had to decrease their support because of the global financial crisis. Even as local support from Scandinavia has increased some, this has left LifeStyleTV in a difficult situation, and how God is going to solve our current financial predicament we don’t know. We can only pray, plan and work. The current shortage in the budget, though big, could be covered by 200 new Gideons partners signing up. We have therefore initiated another Gideons campaign, of getting 200 new Gideon partners before June 20 to help balance the budget. Whether this is the way God will work remains to be seen, and through whom He will work remains unknown. But as the deadline for our campaign is almost here and we are still far from reaching our goal of 200 new Gideons, we therefore ask you to join us in earnest prayer and decisive action.
Are you willing to help us? Would you recruit one Gideons by personally talking to or calling your close friends or relatives, and encourage them to become part of God’s miracle? Maybe there is something else you can do too, so don’t be surprised if God impresses you with other practical ideas that you can do to help.
God’s ways indeed are many. Over the years we have seen young people auction off school photos to family and friends, make a yard sale before getting married, or cancel a wedding honeymoon trip – all personal sacrifices so that they could give and be part of seeing the mission of LifeStyleTV continue. Others have sold cars, written LifeStyleTV into their will, or put a summerhouse up for sale, to be able to give a significant part to the mission of broadcasting the Three Angels’ Messages to Scandinavia. Staff working here at LifeStyleTV have from their already sacrificial salaries volunteered to go on only half pay for a second year, in order that more people’s lives may be changed as a result of watching LifeStyleTV. The question is, what are you willing to sacrifice to see souls saved, and the gospel preached, so that Jesus soon can come and take us all home?
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for praying with us that God again will perform a miracle in behalf of LifeStyleTV, and that it will be a continued testimony to His cause. Do you dare ask with Paul: “What shall I do, Lord?” Acts 22:10. I am sure, that the Lord will show you what you can do and will take care of His mission.
With best regards and wishes of God’s special blessings,
Claus Nybo

2007-08-24 LifeStyleEXPO - Kentucky, USA report

Claus Nybo, LifeStyleTV president, shares about LifeStyleTV.
This past August, LifeStyleTV brought the LifeStyleEXPO to ASI's (Adventist-laymen's Services and Industries) 60th Anniversary convention in Kentucky, USA. The LifeStyleEXPO helped visitors learn more about their personal health, as well as promote the health expo concept and show how it is working in Scandinavia.

"We couldn't have done it without the faithful volunteers who gave of their time and expertise to help run the booths," says Claus Nybo, LifeStyleTV President and organiser of the expo. Visitors found the volunteers and staff "friendly, helpful, kind, courteous and informative". A big thanks to ASI for making spaces available, and seeing the vision for conducting a full health expo within the convention center.

A popular booth was the "Rest" booth, as visitors experienced a relaxing chair massage. Visitors also enjoyed the free health tests to determine their blood glucose, cholesterol and body fat levels. "It was fun to get instant feedback on tests" commented a lady from Arkansas. "It is helpful for us to be reminded about what we need to do to stay healthy" said another.

The LifeStyleEXPO is based on the eight natural laws of health. The panels and materials have been designed to match LifeStyleTV's branding. LifeStyleTV uses the LifeStyleEXPO to promote the TV channel in a tangible way, while getting local volunteers involved in putting something back in their communities.

LifeStyleTV will be holding the it's first LifeStyleEXPO in the USA at the ASI 60th Anniversary convention, August 1-3, 2007. Experience for yourself the benefits of a health expo, either by going through it or being part of the team.

2006-12-01 LifeStyleTV tapes ADRA Christmas programs

LifeStyleTV taped new programs for December 2006 entitled, “Jul med ADRA” (Christmas with Adventist Development and Relief Agency). Using the Malmö Adventkyrkan as a studio, LifeStyleTV taped a concert, interviews and special musics to help promote the work of ADRA on TV this holiday season.
Kersti Esselwall-Smårs, vocals, and Sofia Nordlund, piano, gave a one hour concert in Malmö as part of their tour of Adventist churches in Sweden, raising money for ADRA Sweden's work in third-world countries.
Another facet of promoting ADRA this December was taping a four-part interview series with ADRA Denmark. In the first program, Claus Nybo interviewed Lehnart Falk, Secretary General, and Margit Wærn, Programme assistant, who highlighted ADRA Denmark's work to help thousands of refugees in Burundi re-establish their homes and livelihoods after being displaced by civil war.
Three other programs with representatives of ADRA Denmark will be aired to coincide with each Sunday in Advent.
"Jul med ADRA" will give an added boost in publicity to ADRA’s work in Scandinavia, at a time of year when many people are giving money to overseas projects.
The Danish “Jul med ADRA” interviews start airing on LifeStyleTV at 18:00 hrs CET, Saturday 2nd December, 2006. The Swedish concert will start airing at 20:00 hrs CET, Tuesday 19th December, 2006. Please visit our website for more program information and repeat times.

2006.09.15 | MAP SERIES STARTS THIS WEEKEND
What Is Most Amazing Prophecies (MAP)?
This last year, the Bible has been a primary target of attack, receiving a barrage of criticism and doubts in the media. A parade of books, movies, and TV specials such as The Da Vinci Code, The Gospel of Judas, and The Jesus' Papers, all directly challenge the integrity of God's Word.
But the Bible is an anvil that has worn out many hammers. One of the strongest evidences for the supernatural validity of the Scriptures is found in the amazing accuracy of Bible prophecy. Beginning September 16, 2006 at 21:00* hrs, Pastor Doug Batchelor will present a fascinating series of messages called Most Amazing Prophecies that will not only show that the Bible can be completely trusted, but also share Christ in a unique and profound way that will help you grow your church!
Ten thrilling meetings, presented by Pastor Doug and hosted by Dwight Nelson, will focus on Bible prophecy and how it affects people today. Each program, Pastor Doug will answer Bible questions from the viewing audience while encouraging them to make an informed decision for Christ.
This new, relevant, and uniquely designed program will be rebroadcast by LifeStyleTV with only 20 hours delay from the live feed coming from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.
The MAP series will air every night for 10 nights at 21:00 hrs from Saturday 16th September to Monday 25th September. Visit the MAP page for more information about times.
